About 4,000 people in southern Alberta are without power following the wet, heavy snowfall Saturday night.
Fortis Alberta is reporting several pockets of outages including in the Cochrane, High River, Claresholm, Taber and Vauxhall areas.
The company has brought in extra crews to help with repairs and restoration, said Fortis spokesperson Jennifer MacGowan.
“Our hope is to have the majority of these repairs done at some point this evening,” said MacGowan.
She did acknowledge the possibility some customers may be without power overnight.
There have been reports of downed lines and MacGowan urges anyone who spots one to call 310-WIRE to report it.
MacGowan says people need to stay at least 10 meters away from those wires, as they could be energized.
The outage due to snow is fairly standard for this time of year, according to MacGowan.
“It is very typical because it’s heavy and wet and it just wreaks havoc on our system,” she said.
