Hurt hiker helped by military helicopter in Alberta foothills

NORDEGG, Alta. – A seriously injured hiker has been rescued by members of the Royal Canadian Air Force Edmonton-based 408 Tactical helicopter squadron in the Alberta foothills between Jasper and Banff.

A landing zone reconnaissance flight was underway Tuesday when the squadron received a radio request from Cline River heliport near Nordegg asking for assistance.

The Griffon landed and members carried the hiker by stretcher to the waiting chopper.

The helicopter went to the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre where they were met by staff who had been alerted to their arrival.

The area is about 345 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
