Fred Horne, Progressive Conservative MLA for Edmonton-Rutherford, announced Friday he will not run for a third term.
Horne served as minister of health in former premier Alison Redford’s government.
He gave no reason in his resignation letter for why he is leaving politics.
“It’s something I’ve actually been thinking about for a while,” he told reporters Friday afternoon. “The hardest decision is whether to run in the first place. And probably the next hardest decision if you’re successful is when to leave.”
Horne worked as a health policy consultant for over 25 years, prior to entering politics.
On Thursday former finance minister and deputy premier Doug Horner announced he is resigning as MLA on Jan. 31.
