MADISON – Alberta M. (Walker) Femrite, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on April 18, 1920, in Madison, the daughter of Walter and Josephine (Franzen) Walker. She was united in marriage to Halmer A. Femrite.
Alberta went through eight grades at St. Bernard’s in Madison and graduated in 1938 from East High School. She apprenticed at a beauty school on the Capitol Square in Madison. Alberta worked for many years as a clerk in various grocery stores in the Madison area, such as Commercial Avenue, AP and Hi-Lo Super Market. She worked for Schafer Pharmacy on Williamson Street. Her last job, which she enjoyed very much, was a food service employee at Sennett Middle School in Madison. Alberta kept the home fires going, taking care of two small daughters and working while her husband fought for our country during World War II.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline K. Lawson of Monona and Donna (William) Jones of Madison; seven grandchildren, Edward (Lois) Lawson of Waunakee, Dwayne Lawson of Lakeside, Ore., JoAnna (Robert) Benitez of Monona, Juilenne (Richard) Thibeau of Lutz, Fla., Thomas (Sherilynn) Jones of Lindenhurst, Ill., James (Mary Jo) of Madison and Dennis (Lisa) Jones of Cottage Grove; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Halmer Femrite; parents, Walter and Josephine Walker; brother, Walter (Wally) Walker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hans and Anna Femrite; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art Femrite, Lorraine Femrite, Olga Huston and Rollie Huston; and nephews, Glenn Huston and Brian Femrite.
A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
